I4C was set up to give India a single coordination point for cyber crime, which is otherwise a state police subject. Its most visible products are the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in), the 1930 helpline, and the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS), through which a complaint reaches the banks in a transaction chain within minutes so they can freeze funds.
It also runs the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit, the Cyber Crime Ecosystem Management Unit (which pushes awareness campaigns), the Joint Cyber Crime Coordination Teams that bring together police from hotspot districts, and the CyTrain MOOC platform for police training. The Suspect Registry, shared with banks, flags mule accounts and numbers used in earlier frauds.
What it can do for you
- Register your complaint through 1930 / the portal and route it to the right state cyber cell.
- Trigger freezes on money in the transaction chain through CFCFRMS.
- Block fraudulent numbers, websites and apps in coordination with DoT and MeitY.
What it cannot do
- Investigate your case itself; that is done by state police.
- Return frozen money; that needs a court order obtained through the police.
- Take complaints by email or walk-in; the portal and 1930 are the channels.
